Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and mission-driven Finance Manager to oversee the financial operations of our nonprofit organization. The ideal candidate has strong accounting and financial management experience, a solid understanding of nonprofit reporting requirements, and a passion for supporting community impact through sound fiscal stewardship.


Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.

  • Prepare, review, and analyze monthly financial statements, budget vs. actual reports, and cash flow projections.

  • Maintain the general ledger, chart of accounts, and ensure accurate coding of expenses by program or funding source.

  • Oversee grants management-track restricted funds, prepare grant budgets, and ensure compliance with reporting requirements.

  • Prepare and present financial reports to the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and Finance Committee.

  • Support the annual audit process and Form 990 filing with external auditors.

Budgeting & Planning

  • Lead the annual budgeting process in coordination with leadership and program managers.

  • Monitor financial performance and provide analysis to support strategic decision-making.

  • Develop financial forecasts and identify opportunities for cost efficiency or revenue growth.

Payroll & Compliance

  • Oversee payroll processing, employee reimbursements, and related tax filings.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local nonprofit regulations.

  • Manage vendor contracts, accounts payable/receivable, and banking relationships.

Leadership & Systems

  • Supervise accounting or bookkeeping staff (if applicable).

  • Maintain and enhance financial systems-preferably QuickBooks Online or other nonprofit accounting software.

  • Implement internal controls and best practices to safeguard assets and ensure accurate reporting.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required; CPA or advanced degree preferred.

  • 5+ years of nonprofit accounting or financial management experience.

  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online, Excel, and nonprofit fund accounting.

  • Strong understanding of grant management, restricted/unrestricted funds, and budget tracking.

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Collaborative, mission-driven, and detail-oriented.


Preferred Skills

  • Experience with federal or foundation grant compliance.

  • Familiarity with donor management systems (e.g., Salesforce, Bloomerang, or similar).

  • Prior experience preparing materials for Board and Finance Committees.

  • Ability to translate financial data into actionable insights for non-financial team members.
